📬Our first newsletter is here!
The consortium proudly presents our vision for the transformative outcomes of this project and the dedicated team making it all happen.
Together, let’s like, share, and support initiatives in algae-based sustainable aviation fuels that will revolutionise transport sector and mitigate climate change! 🌱✈️
We are pleased to share that a new review paper is published: “Defining the Interplay Between Energy Transition Challenges and Biomass Contributions: A Resource, Technology, and Environment Perspective”
This paper follows an international seminar hosted by our partners at Universidade Federal de Itajubá, UNIFEI – Brazil, which brought together experts from several institutions, including Dr. Abdullah Z. Turan, representing SUSTEPS, among the contributors to the discussion.
The review offers a broad contextual perspective on biomass’s role in the energy transition, covering resource availability, conversion technologies, and environmental considerations. SUSTEPS is referenced as part of this wider landscape.
Congratulations to Prof Electo Silva leader of this initiative and to all the author team! 👏

📨 We started this week with good news!
Congratulations to our SUSTEPS partners at TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Velid Demir (Waleed Shashoug), Ph.D Demir, Abdullah Z. Turan, Özlem Ataç, and Gamze Behmenyar on their new publication in Catalysts (MDPI)!
📄 “From Heteroatom-Rich Biocrude Towards Drop-In Fuels: A Comprehensive Catalyst Review for Upgrading Algal HTL-Derived Bio-Oils”
The review examines how different catalysts, from sulfides and oxides to noble metals and transition metal carbides, can upgrade nitrogen-and oxygen-rich algal biocrude into refinery ready drop-in fuels.
